Tying Recipe
  • Hook: Straight shank, straight eye, short shank, streamer hook
  • Thread: Olive 140
  • Eyes: Black dumbell eyes
  • Body: Nymph dubbing
  • Tail: Burnt orange marabou
  • Collar: Natural hen hackle
  • You can use any dubbing you’d like for the body, in general I would use something that has a lot of guard hairs and is “buggy.”
  • Tie these in different colors to figure out what works best in your fishery.
  • Try different sizes out but most importantly have a few different weights tied up when you go. Have some that are lighter and some heavier.
  • Try adding some legs!

This fly is easy enough to tie that you can make a box of them the night before you go. Its simplistic design is a proven fish catcher. The eyes tied on top keep the hook point riding up, this keeps you from being hung on the bottom. You can adjust how heavy this fly is by changing the weight of the eyes. The marabou on the throat flows in the water with the buggy bottom underneath draws in a carp’s eye.

Use different weights to fit the depth of water you are fishing. Use as little weight as possible and as much as necessary. you dont want to go overkill throwing a really heavy fly in very shallow water. Throw this fly near tailing carp and slowly strip it by him. Slow quick bumps make the fly hop and spit up little tufts of mud. Use this fly anywhere you can see carp. If they are holding in current try tight lining this fly right in front of his face. If you’re not catching carp on these try changing your technique before changing your fly!
