Tying Recipe
  • Hook: Salmon hook
  • Eyes: Large bead chain
  • Tail: Craft fur
  • Body: Diamond braid
  • Collar 1: Flashabou
  • Collar 2: Schlapen
  • You can use any hook you like for your fishery
  • Use silver flashabou instead of diamond braid for the body
  • You can use hackle instead of schlapen
  • If you don’t have craft fur use pseudo hair or marabou
  • Wrap the shank with .025 non-toxic wire to get the fly deep
  • Tie these in a variety of colors, but the bright ones seem to work the best

This simple fly has great movement because of the the craft fur tail and schlapen collar. The flash adds color and movement to the fly. Beadchain eyes are a great way to get the fly deeper without adding too much weight. Spey casting heavy flies can be tough because the fly will sink quickly after you anchor your cast if you’re not quick. The beadchain eyes keep this fly light enough to cast while allowing it to get to the target depth.

You can fish this fly with a strip, swing, or dead drift making this a versatile fly. Fish this fly on a sinking head to get the fly to the fish’s level. This fly has plenty of movement in the current so you don’t have to strip it much. In general you don’t need to move this fly very fast to get eats. Long slow strips with long pauses works best in the current for this fly.
