Often times, less is more when you’re dealing with pattern to fool stubborn fish. The Comparadun is not different. This is a simple, easy to tie bug that continues to fool weary fish on a consistent basis. Leaving the fly “as is” will display the best results off the vise, and on the water.

This pattern is not specific to any single mayfly species. Just a slight color, or size change can switch this bug from a BWO to a PMD, for example. The body color is the most important when you’re switching up the insect you intend to imitate. Superfine dubbing comes in a wide variety of color options, so getting some variation out of this pattern is simple, yet effective.

This bug is designed to trick the pickiest of the fish in the river. It’s versatility is a huge advantage when you consider the large amount of mayfly species you could encounter on just one day alone. Simple to tie, and a recipe that has nothing but affordable materials is another big plus for this pattern. Realistic as can be, this fly is not one that many fish will pass on when it drifts their way.

A single dry fly is very effective under the correct circumstances, and this just happens to be one of those times. Fishing this fly alone will almost always yield the best results. Try to fish it in slower, less turbulent water. Most of the time this bug comes out to play the fish will be spooky, so one ultra realistic bug is the only thing that should be hitting the water. In a situation where the the water may be slightly faster, a double dry fly rig may be called upon. The Comparadun serves well as a second fly in double dry rigs.
