Tying Recipe
  • Hook: Natural bend 3x long size #24
  • Thread: UTC 70 denier red
  • Body: Antron dubbing
  • Collar: Thread with brown marker
  • Hook: Any small hook will work! Keep it between #18 and #26 for best results
  • Thread: Any thin diameter thread will work, the thinner the better! It’s best not to go above 8/0 or 70 denier
  • Body: Antron dubbing is great, small amounts of antron yarn can work if you wrap it up the hook.
  • Collar: Thread heads work best for this fly.

With most midges it is hard to add materials without getting too much bulk on the fly. Try to keep this one to the recipe, but if you need to do something different, alternate colors are always good!

This is a great midge pattern that has nice segmentation for some added realism. It uses a different style of tying and different materials than most midge patterns as well so it should stand out against all the others.

Fish this fly in the dead of winter for best results. This is when midges are some of the only options for food, and trout gorge themselves on them. This fly fishes best as a tag either under an indicator, or euro nymphing. Get the drift as dead drifted as possible for best results.
