Tying Recipe
  • Hook: Shrimp/Scud hook
  • Eyes: Medium beadchain
  • Tail: Fox hair
  • Body 1: Hareline dubbing
  • Body 2: Brown hackle
  • Rib: Small copper wire
  • Legs: Barred crazy legs
  • Collar: Peacock sword
  • Head: Trilobal STS dubbing

  • Use marabou for the tail
  • Use any dubbing you like for the fly, stick to a nymph dubbing though
  • Use any wire you have or a small tinsel
  • Use any rubber legs you like
  • Try adding some flash
  • Wrap the shank with non-toxic wire to get it deeper

Beadchain eyes on the top make the hook ride up. It is very lightweight so it is very easy to cast and lands easily without spooking fish. The hackle and tail move well in the water and the dubbing creates an amazing profile and buggy look. This fly dosen’t imitate anything specifically, it relies on proven materials and a buggy look to entice strikes.

Change to this fly when the carp are being shy and spooky. They can be skittish about larger heavier flies hitting the water, this little fly is great because its so small and light it doesn’t spook fish. You have to allow for time for it to sink down to the bottom so cast far enough in front of them to get the fly to sit on the bottom by the time they reach it. Some short quick strips with long pauses should seal the deal.
