Picky fish love to eat this fly, so we want to be sure not to mess with the make up of it too much. There are a few inconspicuous swaps that are able to be made with no change in the look of the fly.

Wing Case: Zelon or McFlylon in Black, can take the place of the Antron on this bug.

Legs: Again, Zelon or McFlylon in Black, can take the place of the Antron on this bug.

You could change out the colors and make a PMD,  Trico, or some other type of small mayfly version. With that being said, The olive and black version that is mean to imitate a BWOis by far the most effective. Having a few different sizes is a good idea, as always.

Easy to tie flies that are ultra effective don’t just come around everyday. This bug is very simple on the vise, and is a simple choice to picky fish when you’re on the river. The superfine dubbing body and thorax give this fly a slender, tight taper that does an incredible job of imitating a BWO nymph’s body. The rest of the fly is also very anatomically correct. That makes for a pattern that is a no brainer for you, as well as a no brainer for the trout.

Fish this fly as the last bug in a nymph rig most often. The fish really seem to key in on this fly due to the mercury bead. Make sure it is getting down far enough by using fluorocarbon tippet, and split shot if necessary. This is an awesome choice for tailwaters, or otherwise technical waters.
