Nymph, Emerger

Crafted by tailwaters, for tailwaters, this pattern created by Colorado guide and author Pat Dorsey, is sure to light up your favorite tailwater. Dorsey makes his name largely in the tailwaters of Cheeseman Canyon, the Dream Stream and Deckers; needless to say the pressure on these systems is extreme and the angler must come prepared for a battle. Dorsey crafted this fly with extreme precision and found monster success using it in the most pressured waters of Colorado. You need this fly in your box because it’s so good that fish will munch it regardless of how clear the water is, how much pressure the stream sees and how willing that fish is to take it. Cheeseman Canyon is known for its exceptionally spooky fish and this fly really does work in streams like it. Add a piece of Colorado tailwater to your box with this fly.

Emerger, Nymph

This is a bright, sparkly pattern with great contrast compared to the rest of the fly. This makes this an excellent fly for days where the water is a bit stained, or for cloudy days where the water is a bit darker. Don’t consider this fly for gloomy days only though, the pearl braid will shine through the roughest riffles and plunge pools on bright sunny days as well. The jig style hook keeps this fly riding hook point up, which allows the angler to confidently dredge the bottom without having to worry too much about snagging.

Estimated Tying Time: 3-5 Min

Nymph

This is a unique little jig with the double wire body. This allows for a bit more of a quickly sinking fly by not only adding weight, but the slim body won’t produce much drag in the water. The wing case is also something unique about this fly that might allow it to get more attention with pressured trout. The nice thing with the jig hardware is that the hook point rides up away from the bottom of the river, allowing the angler to really survey the bottom of the river.

Estimated Tying Time: 5-7 Min

Nymph, Emerger

This is a great variation of a top secret that is a little bit more flashy than the original. This works great in early run off, when the snow melt colors the water, but is still too cool for bigger bugs to start to come out. This results in some thick midge hatches, and the pink wing is a great attractor for trout to eat your fly out of the many naturals that are in the water.
