Tying Recipe
  • Hook: Tiemco 2487 or Equivalent
  • Bead: Brass or Tungsten Bead
  • Thread: UTC 70 Thread
  • Wire: UTC X-Small – Small Wire
  • Dubbing: Black Superfine Dubbing
  • Back: Glow in the Dark Flashabou

Aside from hoook, bead and thread substitutions, there is no real substitutions on this pattern.

This is a variation of a black beauty or zebra midge for the most part. Using the glow in the dark flashabou as a wing case over the dubbed head is the key.

The glow midge is a variation of the zebra midge that brings attention to the fly in dark waters and deep holes. The glow in the dark materials bring a different look to the fly underwater and has a knack for finding fish.

This is a great winter fly or deep hole fly.  A small little bit of glow material gets fish going sometimes and I have great luck when the fishing is slow with this pattern.  Fish it as the point fly in any rig you choose or as a dropper off the rig line.
