This is a specialty patterns and there aren’t too many variations except for colors on this fly.  Best colors are listed below.

Damsel dry flies are a staple for trout in the summer months on stillwater lakes. They also work for bass or panfish. This fly is a pretty solid imitation and very visible. Most damsel patterns I come across are either one or the other, but this fly does well for both and is easy to fish.

Simply landing the fly near structure or weed beds is the best tip.  Damsels aren’t really going to land in the open water of lakes without a reason as they know the dangers.  But landing close to weedbeds and structure has merit as the deposit their eggs.  Finding structure will help you find fish and it won’t take long with this fly on the water for fish to eat or for them to avoid it.  If fish don’t seem to be coming near it, make a very small series of twitches as if its the damsels last few moments of life and that can often be enough of a trigger to bring the fish to the surface.
