Wing: Elk, Deer or Caribou
Mix and match CDC feather colors to make a variety of CDC caddis patterns
This fly is very versatile and will work anywhere caddis are active and trout are feeding. The CDC creates a great buggy look to the fly while the elk or deer hair helps it stay afloat easily. This combination of floatation and bugginess is rarely found and makes this a great all purpose caddis. Use some Doc’s Dry Dust or CDC feather dust floatant since products like Gink don’t work with CDC feathers.

I recommend fishing two of these in tandem with eachother. Â One smaller in size than the other as the point fly. Â Cover a lot of water if you don’t see actively feeding fish. Â Many trout will come up for this fly if it’s in the season. Â If it sinks, a few false casts and some doc’s dry dust is all you need to get it floating high and dry again.
