You can change the colors of the deer or elk hair and the thread color to change the color of the fly. Â Black hair and black thread for black caddis for example. Â I like orange a lot for this pattern.

Jay Zimmerman is the inventor of this pattern and does a great job of making a pattern that is easy to see and realistic for the trout. You don’t have to sacrifice visibility for realism here and that makes it a highly effective fly that often outperforms more traditional caddis dry fly patterns
I like to fish this as the first fly in a dual dry fly rig and then trail a CDC caddis emerger or something that is super realistic but hard to see. Â Paired together it’s often deadly for trout during the late spring into summer and all the way into fall.
