Tying Recipe
  • Hook: Perfect Bend, Down Eye, 2X Heavy, 2X Long
  • Thread: UTC 140 Denier, Olive
  • Over Body: 2mm Foam, Brown
  • Under Body: 2mm Foam, Tan
  • Body 1: Medium Ice Chenille, Olive
  • Body 2: Brown Hackle
  • Under Wing: Krystal Flash, Rainbow
  • Over Wing: Elk Hair, Natural
  • Legs: Medium Round Rubber Legs, Brown
  • Head: Ice Dub, Peacock

This is a very advanced, in depth pattern. Materials in this bug are used for a specific purpose, and sync well together. Therefore substitution is a difficult task. There are only two acceptable replacements for material on this fly.

Under Wing: The original calls for Rainbow Krystal Flash, but any color of Krystal Flash will do if you don’t have the Rainbow.

Legs: Spanflex has a nice movement on the water if Round Rubber Legs don’t fancy you.

This bug has got it all going on. Legs, flash, natural materials, synthetic materials, you name it! That being the case, it is difficult to have variations other than color. Different colors for the various bugs you may be attempting to imitate is an important variation to account for though, so don’t leave it overlooked.

Amy’s Ant is a high floating, tough, flashy, fish catching machine! Although it is slightly difficult and time consuming to tie, you’ll be thanking yourself when the trout are crushing it next time you’re on the river. Realistic characteristics seal the deal, but all the flash of the buggy materials really attract those fish. Don’t be surprised if they turn back to grab it, or even come all the way out of the water for the big meal.

Tight to the bank is the name of the game when you’ve got this fly on the end of your line. An excellent choice to be fished alone or in a hopper dropper set up, this bug is extremely flexible. Don’t worry about subtle presentations either, slap it down to let the fish know it’s there.
