The Best Anglers Never Stop Learning
Tying Video
With such a enticing caddis pupa, like the Graphic Caddis, it can be hard to change out materials. Fortunately there are some swaps that can be made if you don’t have all of the materials in the recipe at your bench.
Tag: Small Opal Mirage Tinsel, Small Holo Tinsel, or any other flashy material of the correct size and stature will work just fine as a tag material on this bug.
Legs: Hen Saddle is a staple material that can easily stand in for the Partridge if need be.
Varying sizes and colors of the bugs in the water you fish should dictate the colors and sizes you tie this pattern in. Some popular choices other than chartreuse are olive, orange, and tan. Having a few in each color and size will keep you on top of your caddis game!
The pupa stage of a caddis is a welcome sight for any fish. An easy meal, usually in large numbers. The Graphic Caddis does an awesome job of imitating the emerging pupa, but with a little extra pizzazz from that flashy tag. Between that and the pulsation of the ostrich herl and partridge legs you should have fish slamming it all day long if you’re in the presence of a prolific caddis emergence.
Fishing this fly underneath a caddis dry fly during a hatch will most likely yield fish on both bugs. Don’t be surprised if most of them are on the Graphic Caddis though. Another thing to always remember to do is let this bug swing at the end of your drift; some fish go crazy over this pattern on the swing.
