This is a pattern specially developed by Kelly Galloup to dart back and forth through the water. The materials he incorporated when inventing this fly make all the difference in the world, and it is absolutely best to stick to the recipe on this one.

You can tie the Zoo Cougar in just about any color under the sun, but some popular variations are white, black, and olive. Different colors are arguably the most important variation to pay attention to in streamers, but a few sizes can’t hurt either.

In water movement is a big factor in a streamer pattern, and this fly has a back and forth motion like no other. Massive browns have a very difficult time refusing to inhale this morsel of baitfish goodness. It may be a little time intensive to tie, but you’ll be thanking yourself when you’re bowed up on a toad of a fish.

The Zoo Cougar is unweighted so fishing it on a heavy sinking line is crucial to getting it into the zone. If you want to try it on a floating line just be sure to try and weigh it down as much as possible. Try all sorts of different retrieve styles when fishing it, one minute the fish like it fast and the next they’ll like it dead drifted. If you really aren’t having any luck go ahead and switch colors every few minutes until you find a hot fly.
