Tying Video
Very simple, yet effective patterns like this one are hard to find interchangeable materials for. In this case we have only one material that is easily swapped out. Changing anything else about the fly is not advised.
Post: McFlylon is a great synthetic material that will takes the place of the Turkey Flats with no issues at all.
A darker olive dubbed version with grizzly hackle instead of dun hackle is a nice color change up if you are feeling up to it, but one or the other is fine. Having both is not necessary. Otherwise, stick to the original, it catches fish like a machine.
The main attraction to this fly is the simplicity. Less is absolutely more in this case, and you’ll have some fish pictures to show for it. The color, taper, and features are spot on with this bug. It’s the perfect fly to get out of the Winter nymphing funk. Once Spring rolls around, you’re sure to find plenty of eager fish feeding on these little guys.
This is a perfect choice for the Spring, Summer, and Fall wherever the BWO’s may be active. Putting floatant on it the night before you fish can be a life saver, as this pattern will need a little help to stay up on the water after a while. The simplicity of this pattern will fool a fish more often than not.
