The Best Anglers Never Stop Learning
Tying Video
This pattern is one of those flies that not too many people think about, or really know about. Hopefully that changes soon because this is one crazy convincing bug. We can swap out one material on it without messing up the way it’s intended to look.
Thorax:Â You can really use any dubbing you see fit for the thorax. Ice Dub will give a little flash, and Superfine Dubbing will make tight wraps with a streamlined look.
Change up the colors and sizes for the caddis in your specific area. Otherwise, there aren’t any bug variations to mention. A black and peacock version would be a great option to try if you are looking to change it up.
The way the pheasant tail makes the body of this fly look is one of it’s major keys to success. Instead of being one uniform color and texture, it has some rougher edges and a mottled coloring. This takes the bug’s realistic appearance to the next level. It’s also extremely easy to see with the pink parachute sticking out of the top. Put away the old simulators and give this fly a whirl!
Fishing the Bloom Caddis in pocket water, nervous riffles on the edge of fast and slow water is the best place for it. It’s not a middle of the river bug that will stay up with a big dropper underneath it. Subtle presentations to feeding fish will usually yield incredible results.
