Tying Recipe
  • Hook: Straight shank, down eye, streamer hook
  • Tail loop: 10# mono
  • Tail: Pine squirrel zonker
  • Body loop 1: Crystal ice dubbing
  • Body loop 2: Red ice dub
  • Head: Thread

Tying tips: Be sure to brush out the dubbing loop before wrapping to avoid trapping lots of fibers.

  • You can tie larger ones with rabbit zonker strips which are larger cut.
  • You can use any dubbing you like.
  • Try tying this fly in tons of sizes and colors. They work well for just about any species, try some bright colors for bass and panfish and try some more natural colors for trout.
  • Try adding a cone-head or a bead to the front if you need it to get deeper. This also achieves a jigging motion in the water.

This easy to cast streamer is one of those that every fly box should have. It works everywhere you fish and is an incredibly easy streamer pattern to fish. The body loop may seem daunting if you have never tied one before. It’s function is to be able to use dubbing as a body. The dubbing loops allows the dubbing to be much longer and bulkier making the perfect size for a body on this fly. The loop on the back keeps the zonker strip from wrapping around the hook bend, something that is annoying and prone to happen on anything with a zonker tail.

This easy to cast streamer is perfect for casting all day. It is very versatile and can be fished by stripping, swinging, or dead drifting. Just Make sure you have a few color combinations and sizes in each of your box. You can easily add weight to the head of this fly to adjust the weight so that it can easily reach the strike zone. This is a great small streamer to use as a nymph if the fish aren’t chasing. Tie it on and fish it just like you would a large stone fly nymph.

Tie this one in smaller sizes to catch some panfish, this is an awesome pattern for getting the panfish riled up. I recommend bright colors for this use.
