Tying Recipe
  • Hook: Straight shank, straight eye, saltwater hook
  • Thread: Pink UTC 140
  • Eyes: Beadchain Eyes
  • Body: Red body glass
  • Throat: Pseudo-Hair
  • Legs: Tan barred
  • Head: Crystal cactus chenille
  • You can use any similar material for the throat, EP fiber, craft fur, or polar fiber, etc.
  • Use dumbbell eyes if you need more weight

Try different colors and weights. Olive and tan work well.

This easy to tie bonefish pattern is a must have for the box. These imitate small shrimp that bonefish love. Use these on the flats to entice bonefish eats. Having the weight on the top of the hook means this fly will ride hook point up keeping it from snagging grass and small pieces of coral. The flowing pseudo hair throat gives the fly action and attracts fish.

Cast this fly near tailing bonefish. Lead them enough to let the fly sink to the bottom and keep a tight line to the fly. When a school of bonefish comes close give it short quick strips like a shrimp fleeing backwards. Remember to strip-set the fly and hang on!
