Tying Recipe
  • Hook: Straight shank, straight eye, saltwater hook
  • Eyes: Silver beadchain eyes
  • Head: FL. pink fine chenille
  • Collar 1: White calf tail
  • Flash: Pearl krystal flash
  • Collar 2: Grizzly bugger hackle
  • You can use any hackle you like for “Collar 2”
  • Use any chenille you like for the head.

Try tying the puff with heavier eyes to get them deeper if needed. Try to stick with these colors though. Try some different sizes.

This simple to tie bonefish pattern is a great attractor for bonefish. Tied with the weight on the top of the hook it rides hook point up. This keeps the hook from getting snagged on the grass or coral you are fishing on top of. The bonefish like the profile and movement this fly has. The long rear hackle fibers have a great movement when you strip the fly, pair this with the pink head and jigging motion you’ve got a go-to for the flats.

Cast this fly near cruising or tailing bonefish or cast to the other side of a mud cloud and strip it through. This fly can stand out in the cloudy muddy water that bonefish stir up. Let the fly get down before stripping. When you begin to retrieve the fly keep your strips quick and short, 5-6″ strips. This keeps the fly on the bottom and gives it a great hopping motion. Be sure to strip-set the fly when you feel pressure!
