Tying Recipe
  • Hook: Straight shank, straight eye, saltwater hook
  • Thread: FL pink UTC 140
  • Eyes: Silver bead chain eyes
  • Tail: Small pearl minnow body
  • Body 1: Pearl flat diamond braid
  • Flash: Pearl krystal flash
  • Body 2: Tan zonker rabbit strip
  • Body 3: Pink or tan craft fur
  • Use flashabou or another flash to wrap instead of diamond braid
  • Try adding some rubber legs if you wish. Tan or hot pink tip legs look good.
  • Try different colors, sizes, and weights.

This fly has lots of attention grabbing flash and movement. The zonker strip paired with the craft fur really flows in the water. The slender profile makes the fly easy to cast and the eyes on top of the shank keep the hook point up. The zonker strip is really the key to this fly, when it is striped the pulsing zonker strip is irresistible.

Cast this fly to tailing bonefish or mud clouds where bonefish are feeding. Let the fly sink to the bottom before stripping. Once on bottom start with a short quick strip but if that is not working adjust to a long slow strip. remember to strip set on these fish and hang on.

This is a good fly to try for any shrimp eating species, permit can be caught on this fly as well. When tying for bonefish keep the sizes smaller but when tying for another shrimp eating species you probably want to go to a larger hook.
