Tying Recipe
  • Hook: Straight shank, straight eye, saltwater hook
  • Eyes: Yellow dumbbell eyes
  • Tail: Tan craft fur
  • Flash: Pearl krystal flash
  • Body:Natural brown saddle hackle
  • Collar: Natural deer hair
  • Head: Natural deer hair
  • Use any eyes you like.
  • Use any streamer hackle for the body.
  • Try adding rubber legs if you wish.
  • Add some more flash to the tail with krinkle flash or fashabou.

The deer hair head on this fly is reminiscent of trout streamers, but it works well for bonefish as well. The deer hair head pushes water that fish can detect with their lateral lines. This fly works so well because the fish can feel the fly before they ever even see it. The hackle and the tail pulse in the water while the eyes produce a jigging motion. This is one fly you can not go without.

Because of the nature of the head on this fly it makes it my favorite to cast through mud clouds produced by bonefish. The deer hair head pushing water can attract bonefish when visibility is reduced. As with almost all bonefish flies, the weight is on the top of the hook making it ride hook point up this keeps it from grabbing grass or coral on bottom. Use this fly anywhere you see mud clouds on the flats.
