This is a classically designed fly, that can imitate a wide variety of mayflies. It’s a very versatile pattern should be a staple in your mayfly box, especially for those picky fish. The recipe on this pattern is specific for a reason, and should be followed down to the last detail, with the exception of one substitution option.

Wing: The Antron can be replaced with any equivalent material, such as Zelon.

Not a whole lot can be done with this fly as far as changing it up. Some of these more classic patterns are best left unchanged. With that being said, feel free to change out colors and sizes to match the specific mayfly in your area. If you are looking for a more general color scheme, stick with the original brown.

There are so many different species of mayflies. They change from area to area, and river to river. Having your fly selection prepared for any of those species, at any given time can be a pain. Patterns like the Biot Parachute never go out of style when it comes to bugs that imitate a wide variety of insects. Along with it’s versatility, the segmentation that the goose biot provides is unmatched. Picky fish, or not, pull this bug out next time you’re in a thick mayfly hatch. Make your cast, and watch some magic happen!

Fishing this fly alone is the best option in smaller sizes, as it doesn’t have the buoyancy to float a nymph underneath it in most cases. In larger sizes, and depending on the water you’re fishing, you could easily use this bug in a dry dropper rig. The nymph would need to be pretty weightless to ensure that this fly will float correctly. A delicate presentation will usually be rewarded if the fish are keyed in on mayflies.
