The Best Anglers Never Stop Learning
The Best Anglers Never Stop Learning
Tying Video
This is quite possibly one of the simplest patterns to tie. With only one material besides the hook and thread, this bug doesn’t have much going into it. For that reason it’s really hard to find any substitutes. Especially when the one material is something as simple as wire. Stick with the recipe on this bug for the best results.
Worms come in many different colors, and sizes. So should your flies that imitate them! With a pattern like this, just a slight color change can turn your day around in an instant. Red, orange, pink, and brown are all solid choices. You should be able to tie plenty of these bugs without much fatigue. They are easy to fill your box with, and will fill your net too!
Other than being insanely simple to tie, and easy on your pocketbook, this fly flat out catches fish. The curvature of the hook gives this bug an ultra believable look, very similar to the real thing. It’s fluorescent color aids the fish in being able to spot the fly in high, dirty water conditions. This fly can help you scratch the fishing itch during those progressively longer spring days when the snow is melting, and the rivers are roaring.
The Pigsticker Worm can be your savior during runoff, but that doesn’t mean you should be limited to fishing it for just those couple of months every year. This pattern is a great confidence fly when you’re having one of those days where the fish just don’t seem to be interested in anything you throw at them. Fishing this fly in a nymph rig is the most common practice, and tends to serve an angler well. Make sure you’ve got some split shot, or heavier flies on the rig to weigh it down, and get this fly into the zone.
