Tying Recipe
  • Hook: Wide gap streamer hook.
  • Tail-Hook Connection: Large intruder wire
  • Shanks: Fish skull fish spine
  • Body: Minnow body wrap
  • Eyes: 6-10mm fish skull living eyes
  • Brush: Ultimate dubbing brush

Tying Tips: Use a brush/comb/ or dubbing needle to pick out the material as you wrap. Go slow and try not to trap the fibers.

  • You can use CCT body wrap for the body or any other thick brash material
  • You can use some 15-25# mono to attach the shanks to the front hook
  • Use any eyes you wish
  • I highly recommend a short shank and wide gap hook such as a Gamakatsu B10s
  • Try tying these in different sizes. If you want to tie a smaller one use less shanks, leave off the longest shank.
  • If your fish are prone to short strike your fly you can add a stinger hook to the rear hook
  • Add some .030 non-toxic wire wrap to the hook to add weight.
  • Tie in white to imitate shad, olive/brown looks like a sculpin, olive/orange/blue is a perfect panfish imitation.
  • Tie in all white and use sharpies to color the material to match any baitfish!

Because of the fish spine this fly has incredible movement. It looks just like a wounded baitfish in the water and the fish key in on that. The action and movement of this fly look just like a swimbait if you are familiar with terminal tackle. The use of the waterproof materials means that it doesn’t hold too much water so it is relatively easy to cast although you will need a stiff 6wt and up for this fly. Use this fly anywhere baitfish are present in your fishery.

Trout key in on baitfish patterns (streamers) when there are no hatches. For most of us this means late fall-early spring. That being said, big predatory brown trout (and bows too) will always eat a big meal. If you want to target big fish this is the fly for you.

Bass eat baitfish year ’round. Use this fly whenever you go bass fishing to target big hungry fish. On lakes this fly works great for big largemouth and river smallmouth.

Make sure you get this fly to the correct depth of the fish. This fly needs to be fished on a sinking fly line in nearly every situation. Once you get the fly to the correct depth strip erratically to produce great swimming action.
