Tying Recipe
  • Hook: Straight shank streamer hook
  • Eyes: Dumbell eyes
  • Tail: Wooly bugger marabou
  • Body 1: Ice dubbing
  • Hackle: Schlapen
  • Legs: Barred crazy legs
  • Back: Pseudo hair
  • Head: Pseudo hair

Tying tip: Use a fine tooth brush or comb to brush the pseduo hair before trimming.

  • Use any weighted eyes you want
  • Use any dubbing but keep it flashy
  • You can use any hackle you use for your streamers but schlapen is recommended.
  • Craft fur can be used in place of pseudo hair
  • You can tie this one to ride hook point up by placing the eyes on the top of the hook.
  • Tie these in any color to imitate the baitfish in your fishery.
  • This fly is popular as an articulated pattern too.
  • Tie these in olive to represent sculpin, white for shad, black for leeches.

This weighted baitfish has the ability to get deep and has great movement. The marabou tail, tapered schlapen, and pseudo hair back create great movement in the water. The trimmed head creates a realistic baitfish shape and can hold water to help get the fly deep. You likely have the materials to tie this fly already, just use your imagination to come up with fun color combos.

This fly can get pretty deep itself, make sure you use a long enough leader to help the fly get deep. You can use splitshot with it or upgrade to a sink tip line to get to the strike zone. This fly can also be fished under an indicator dead drifted, this technique can work well when not hatches are prevalent. This fly works well for trout or bass, any fish that eats baitfish.
