Tying Recipe
  • Hook: Straight shank Streamer hook
  • Tail: Marabou
  • Body: Estaz chenille
  • Legs: Silicone rubber legs
  • Head: Cone head
  • Use cactus chenille if you have it
  • Use any legs you want
  • Add flash to the marabou tail if you need some more flash.
  • Use different color Estaz chenille, leg, and marabou tail combos.
  • Tie different sizes to match your fishery.
  • Try tying in black, olive, and crawfish colors (orange/brown/olive)

This fly has great action in the water because the rubber legs pulse with the water. The estaz chenille is waterproof so it won’t hold water, that makes it easier to cast. The marabou tail on this fly will pulse with the current or when you strip the fly creating enticing movement. The estaz body looks buggy and flashy, it is an attention grabber.

Fish this fly through rifts and runs to locate trout holding in deeper water. One of my favorite ways to fish this fly is to find a shallow bank or shoal that is emptying into a deep hole. Cast the fly onto the shoal and strip it off the edge into the pool. This natural presentation drives fish crazy and sparks a competitive edge to who can get to the fly first. Vary your retrieval speeds with this fly to find what works best. If you tie it in white/grey shad colors you can fish it higher and faster in the water column vs if you tie it in crawfish colors you need to fish it low and slow.
