This fly is cheap to tie and is useful in a wide variety of applications. Trout, bass, and pike will all go for this fly. In other words, predators like this fly. The long zonker strip is the key to attract strikes on this fly. Be careful having a long zonker strip, it can be prone to short strike. Leave the tail long and trim it down if needed while fishing if you get short struck. Keep in mind, if the fish is large enough it is less likely to short strike.

Pair this fly with a sinking or sink tip fly line for best results. Predatory fish are almost always ambush predators. The key to catch them is to keep your fly near structure where they are waiting to ambush something. Rocks, grass mats, logs, stumps, and over hangs are all places to target with this fly to attract predators. Vary your retrieve with this fly to find what works best.
