Tying Recipe
  • Hook: Straight shank streamer hook
  • Weight: .020 non-toxic wire wrap
  • Bead: Cyclops gold bead
  • Tail: Sparkle leech dubbing
  • Body: Sparkle leech dubbing
  • You can use any ice/flashy dubbing you have, but I recommend this dubbing. If you want to tie a similar fly with something more common check out the mohair leech.
  • Some folks may add a collar in a spun dubbing loop.
  • Try adding some more flash for a tail or rubber legs

This little fly has a lot of weight to get it to the bottom and when it gets there the limp fibers sparkle and pulse with the water. It creates a bulkier profile without creating weight in the fly. This makes it very easy to cast and gets down quick.

Utilize the weight in this fly and get it to the bottom. Leeches live on or near the bottom of the river. Fish this fly near the bottom of a trough or a pool. Cast at the top of the feature and let it float downriver through the feature. It is very easy to strip this fly too quickly. Let it do its thing, keep it moving slow and let the fish get drawn in by the profile not by the action of the fly. The leech dubbing will pulse in the current better than you can create by stripping the fly.

Fish this fly under an indicator as a nymph in deeper water. This makes a great point fly as it gets the nymph rig deep. (A point fly is the bottom fly on your line)
