The CDC emerging dun creates an extremely lifelike silhouette of a mayfly dun struggling to get off the surface of the water. You can change up the color of the body and wings to imitate specific mayfly duns in your home river or lake.

The main benefit of this fly is the CDC wing that keeps the fly riding in the film of the water column right where the natural mayfly emergers are. This pattern also creates an extremely lifelike silhouette for the fish to look up at which makes it a highly effective for picky trout.

The best way to fish this mayfly dun pattern is in a single or double dry rig. This pattern is extremely effective when sight fishing to trout that aren’t quite rising but are active high in the water column. Depending upon the water type an upstream, across, or downstream cast should be employed and be sure to use fluorocarbon tippet if you are pursuing pressured fish.
