The CDC pheasant tail combines a classic pattern with an innovative material. This fly is a great attractor pattern but does not have many variations because of its relatively simple design. Change up the color of the body, tail and collar to match any caddis or mayfly nymphs in your home river or lake.

The key benefit of this fly is the CDC collar which creates a very lifelike motion in the water. The pheasant tail is a pattern that has been successful for many years but the addition of CDC has only made it better. Due to this lifelike motion and silhouette in the water the CDC pheasant tail should be stocked in all trout enthusiasts fly boxes.

This fly is best fished dead drifted underneath an indicator in a double nymph rig. The CDC pheasant tail is usually larger than the regular pheasant tail so using it as your top fly is your best bet. Fish this fly in front of large boulders, through riffles, and through current seams for the best results.
