The foam back keeps this fly sitting in the surface film like a real mouse. The pine squirrel is mostly under water where the foam back of the fly is on the surface.
Fish this fly with a heavy floating line, you’ll need it to cast because mouse patterns are wind resistant and can get water logged. . You’ll want to fish this fly off the bank. Cast next too the bank at a downstream angle. Land the fly right next to the bank and with constant quick little strips work the fly toward the middle of the river.
