Tying Video
Matt’s Buzzer is a unique pattern that works exceptionally well in a wide variety of sizes. Although you can tie it up in plenty of different sizes, this fly doesn’t have too may substitutions to boast. In fact, Only one of theses materials can be switched out without any issues.
Wing Pads: Red Flexi Floss can do a fine job in place of the Mallard Primary Feather.
The abdomen on this bug is the easiest part of the fly to vary when you’re trying to have a few different options in your box. An olive or black abdomen looks great on this bug, and will fish just as well. Having a very wide variety in sizes is an essential key to finding success with this fly.
Matt’s Buzzer is a killer pattern for any situation where midges are on the menu. It is a bit bold in the color arena, but a lot of times that can really seal the deal. This bug is also extra durable because of the UV coating that it incorporates, which is always a plus when you’re trying to save flies. It’s not your everyday, boring midge pattern, and it’s easy to tie, so go give it a shot!
Winter fishing can be a tough run some days, but this fly can make those cold days a little warmer. Although this fly can be successfully fished year round in many different situations, it can really excel in the colder months when nothing else seems to be getting the fish hot and bothered. Fish it at the bottom of a nymph rig in the smaller sizes, and advance it up in the succession of flies as the hook size increases.
