The Best Anglers Never Stop Learning
Tying Video
This fly is a great baitfish imitation. It uses the deer hair to push lots of water and give it great movement in the tail. It is an attention grabber with the flowing tail and fish can feel the water it pushes.
I primarily fish for smallmouth bass, a few years ago I got into using tarpon streamers for bass and they work wonderfully. This is a versatile fly that will attract strikes from any predator.
Most application in saltwater will be done with a floating line. A floating line is great for teasing fish out of mangroves but an intermediate sink tip line can help get the fly to the fish’s level. Try some different retrieves with this pattern. Sometimes a fast and long retrieve will work well to get reaction strikes. Sometimes to entice lazy fish short hard strips with long pauses works better. You’ll need to vary your retrieve to find the one that works best.
