The Best Anglers Never Stop Learning
Tying Video
The micro crab is perfect for bonefish or very spooky permit as the ones on Turneffe atoll can be. In general you should use a tan crab when fishing over sand and a green one when fishing over grass. I would have a few of each tied up for different scenarios. The small body creates a perfect profile and doesn’t spook fish while the claws crate lifelike movement because of the limp silky fibers.
Cast near tailing or cruising fish. Use a very gentle presentation and a tight line cast. Let the fly sink to the bottom before stripping. Once on bottom when the fish are close give it a couple of short quick strips with pauses. This grabs the fish’s attention as it looks like a fleeing crab. This is when they are likely to turn on your fly. A quick strip set and the fight is on.
