The Jassid is a very unique fly in that it imitates much smaller versions of insects (hoppers, ants, beetles) that are usually big, meaty trout meals. The composition of this bug is very important to it’s effectiveness, so there is only one substitution that makes the cut for us.

Body: Superfine Dubbing in a very similar color will do the job almost the same for the body of this fly.

Depending on the types of insects you’d like to focus on fishing , changing out the body color can be a big help. A black version with ants and beetles in mind, and green or tan versions with hoppers in mind are all nice compliments to the original brown. With the a few colors picked out, you can also pick a few sizes for each.

This pattern is a shape shifter of sorts. It could be this, it could be that, but all that really matters is that the trout think it’s something. Micro dry flies like this one can be super effective on picky fish, so don’t be afraid to try this little guy on some stubborn, educated fish.

This fly is super hard to see, especially in the smallest of sizes. When you fish it alone, be looking for rises in the general vicinity of your cast. If you really can’t seem to keep track of the fly or rises, tie on a larger dry fly in front of it and fish a double dry fly rig. The bigger fly will act as an indicator for The Jassid.
