Tying Recipe
  • Hook: Wide gap streamer hook
  • Eyes: Silver large beadchain
  • Tail 1: Bucktail 1
  • Flash: Flashabou
  • Tail 2: Bucktail 2
  • Body/Gills: Red braid
  • Side Feathers: Grizzle saddle hackle
  • Collar: Schlapen
  • You can use dumbbell eyes to get the fly deeper
  • Use red mirror wrap or polar chenille
  • You can use any hackle feathers for the side
  • Tie with more flash. Add some more in the tail and again behind the head along the back
  • Add non-toxic wire wrap to get the fly deeper

This fly creates lots of movement and commotion in the water. The materials give it a rigid body but can pulse in moving current or when retrieved. The beadchain eyes give i enough weight to help get it down and help it swim erratically.

This fly is meant to target big predators. Cast this where big predators are sure to be hanging out and waiting to ambush an unsuspecting critter. Big logs, stumps, boulders, rocks, overhangs, and cut banks are all places to target with this fly. I recommend a sink tip line to get the fly down next to these structures. Cast past the structure to allow the fly to sink to the target level when retrieving. You may have to wait 4-5 seconds before stripping to get the fly deep enough, but this depends on your fly line.

Strips should be forceful with a hard stop. 99% of the time the fish will eat the fly when it stops. Change up your retrieve speed to determine what the fish want.
