Like most streamer patterns, the color combinations are endless for this pattern. Flymen fish skull masks make a great substitute for the heads of this streamer and may decrease the time spent on the vise for this fly. You can also articulate this streamer for a great pattern that is a bit larger. If you do this be sure to get some articulation wire that can take some punishment. 30# braid will do the trick well for this pattern. For the toothy predator angler, consider adding some dragon tails, or Pacchiarnini wiggle tails for some great movement in the water.
This a great small bait fish or baby trout imitation for clearer water. This is a very realistic imitation that really slims down in the water to have a great profile. The smaller size of this streamer won’t intimidate wary fish, and can easily be the second fly on your double streamer rig.
In cooler water temperatures slow your retrieve down or swing the fly with the current of the river to aggravate the fish. When the water warms, you can speed your retrieve back up to get those predatory fish to chase your streamer down. In high or dirty water consider throwing a double streamer rig with either two of these flies, or a larger fly in front with this trailing. Often large fish are interested in the large bait, but go for the smaller option.
