Tying Recipe
  • Hook: Standard straight shank down-eye nymph hook size #12
  • Bead: Slotted tungsten bead 3mm silver
  • Thread: UTC 70 denier red
  • Tail: Goose biots white
  • Body: Light shade rainbow scud dubbing
  • Rib: Lateral scale size small and 6x monofilament tippet
  • Thorax: Dark shade rainbow scud dubbing
  • Legs: Goose biots white
  • Wing: Antron yarn red
  • Hook: Use any standard nymph hook that you like. Down-eye or straight eye can be used.
  • Bead: Standard tungsten or brass beads will work fine.
  • Thread: Use any thin diameter thread that you like. The thinner the better for this fly. Try not to go thicker than 8/0 or 70 denier.
  • Tail: Rubber legs can replace goose biots.
  • Body: Use any rainbow dubbing that you like.
  • Rib: Use any small flat flash that you like. Silver wire can work just as good.
  • Thorax: You can use the same dubbing as the body for the thorax.
  • Legs: Rubber legs can replace goose biots.
  • Wing: Polypropylene or McFlyon can replace antron yarn.

This is a fun little attractor pattern that you can get kind of creative with. For a nymph with more movement replace the goose biots for small round rubber legs. Just be sure to cut them to an appropriate length for the size of fly you are tying. For an even more buggy pattern, try wrapping a few turns of some CDC around the collar for a bug that displaces a bit more water.

This is a great attractor pattern that will be sure to get the attention of any fish in the water. With the rainbow scud dubbing, flash rib and bright red wing this fly will not go unnoticed in the water column, making it a great point fly for an indicator or euro rig, or a great dropper off of a dry fly.

Fish this like any other nymph either as the point fly for an indicator or euro rig, or even as the dropper off of a dry dropper rig. Try to get the best dead drift presentation for best results. If fishing with a nymph rig, be sure to add a smaller natural pattern behind it, just incase the fish doesn’t want to eat the attractor.
