Tying Recipe
  • Hook: Heavy curved nymph hook
  • Bead: Gold
  • Weight: Medium weight
  • Tail: Marabou
  • Body: Hares ear dubbing
  • Legs: Rubber legs

Tying Tips: Tie the legs in longer than you need and trim them later.

  • You could use a similar chenille instead of the hares ear dubbing.
  • You can use any dubbing you like but stick to a nymph dubbing.
  • Try different sizes of this fly and different weights to match the water you are fishing.
  • Try tying an olive, black, and natural color!

This is a simple pattern that imitates a lot of different things that fish love to eat. It looks like a stonefly, a dragonfly, or a small baitfish. Who knows what fish think it is but they definitely work! The best part about this fly is that it isn’t region specific at all. You could use this fly on trout from Tennessee to Alaska.

Nymph it deep as a point fly, also known as the fly closest to the bottom on your nymph rig. Try stripping it to entice weary trout or carp. Yes, carp LOVE this fly! If you are going chase some carp this fly is a must have.

  • Nymphing the fly deep would probably seem like a stonefly. Keep it on the bottom and remember, if you’re never grabbing bottom you’re not fishing it deep enough.
  • Stripping the fly for trout or panfish is extremely productive. Don’t forget to swing this fly as well for trout. Panfish will enjoy this fly with slow strips.
  • Carp fishing with this fly requires accuracy. Place this fly gently about 6 inches from his nose and give it very long slow strips.
