Tying Recipe
  • Hook: Heavy curved nymph hook
  • Bead: Gold bead
  • Weight: Lead-free wire wrap
  • Tail: Wooly bugger marabou
  • Wire: Silver brassie
  • Body: Peacock
  • Legs: Rubber legs
  • Back: Biots
  • You can substitute the peacock for peacock chenille
  • You don’t have to put the biots on there if you don’t have them.
  • Try some different sizes of this fly to match what works in your fishery.
  • Adjust the weight in the fly to match your river. Deeper rivers require more weight.

If you can tie this nymph many other trout nymphs should be easier. The beauty of this fly is that it’s a nymph that you have a lot of room to work with on the hook. I would recommend trying a few of these before switching to tie some standard prince nymphs. We love the bigger prince because it’s a little different. If you are fishing areas that are heavily pressured this fly is going to work well because it is something they haven’t seen before. It’s versatility in a trout fishery and its easy to tie techniques make this a must have for your box.

Fish this fly as a point fly (the nymph at the end of your nymph rig closest tot the bottom) and get it deep in the strike zone. It looks similar to a stone fly with the body shape and legs, get it near the bottom where they would live. I highly recommend fishing this fly on a swing as well. Swing it along a bank or through a rift and see what you can find. These make great locating patterns and work well on any trout fishery.
