The Best Anglers Never Stop Learning
Tying Video
Tying tip: Be patient wrapping the hackle and avoid trapping any. Use a needle or bodkin often to pick out the strands.
This simple fly doesn’t require many materials to tie but you may not have the appropriate hackle for this fly. It is key to use the brahma hen hackle as the mottle look and the way the feathers move in the water are the key to this pattern. The flowing marabou tail with the stiffer palmered hackle is the secret to the success of this pattern.
Use this fly for trout when you are fishing heavily pressured areas as they nearly certainly haven’t seen this one. This fly is so versatile, it can be fished pretty much any way you can imagine. Fish it on a swing, on a dead drift or by stripping it. Vary stripping speeds, fishing depth, and technique to find what works best in your fishery.
