Tying Recipe
  • Hook: Standard Dry Fly Hook – Straight Shank, Down Eye, Perfect Bend
  • Thread: UTC 70 or 6/0 Danville
  • Body: Hare tron Dubbing (Hares Ear and Antron Mixed)
  • Underwing: Zelon
  • Overwing: Carabou Hair
  • Thorax/Head: Hares Ear Dubbing
  • Body: Any Dubbing Works
  • Underwing: McFlylon or Antron
  • Overwing: Elk Hair or Deer Hair

Change the colors of the body and thorax/head to change colors of the caddis pattern.

Carabou hair is light and hollow much like deer or elk, but is shorter. It’s rougher and more coarse but can create a unique body in comparison to deer or elk hair and is a fun options. It comes in a variety of colors/dyes, so try a few out and see how you like it. I know some who only use it and others who don’t care of it at all. It’s a personal preference and possible a matter of what you have local in your shops or can purchase online that will make the decision for you.

This fly stands on it’s own well and for beginners is a great fly to throw as a single dry fly.  I often recommend more than one fly set ups, but this fly floats well and is visible on it’s own so it’s a good opportunity to fish as a single fly and really work the banks close.  With a single fly you can be more accurate and precise with your casts.
