Tying Recipe
  • Hook: Straight shank streamer
  • Rib: Tinsel
  • Body: Thread
  • Back: Marabou 1
  • Throat: Marabou 2
  • Head: Thread
  • Use any hook you want
  • Use any color thread you like
  • Use any type of ribbing. Wire or even another thread color works well
  • Use any color marabou you like
  • Try a chenille body instead of thread.
  • Add some flash under the top marabou or off the rear of the hook as the tail

This cheap and easy pattern is so simple that it just might work…. It utilizes fish’s weakness for marabou. There are no substitutes for marabou in most cases. It flows and pulses in the water better than any other material. The body inside adds some bulk and flash while the marabou tricks the fish into eating.

Cast this fly into likely spots to hold fish. Around a log, rocks, or overhangs are the best places to try. Cast as close as you can to the bank and work the fly slowly back to you with short quick strips with long pauses. Strip just enough to get the marabou to react to your strip. You want it to slim down when you strip and then “pop” up when you stop. Fish will eat this fly when you pause it after a strip. Keep your rod tip low and strip set the fly when you feel pressure.
