Tying Recipe
  • Hook: Saltwater
  • Thread: Pink UTC
  • Eyes: Medium pseudo eyes
  • Tail: Pearl krystal flash
  • Body: Pearl krystal flash
  • Collar 1: Pearl krystal flash
  • Collar 2: Sand pseudo hair

  • Use any saltwater hook you have to match the target species
  • Use bead chain eyes or any dumbbell eyes to match the water depth
  • Use different colors of krystal flash
  • You can use craft fur instead of pseudo hair
  • Tie in different sizes and colors (orange is a popular color for this fly)
  • Tie in some legs out the back or with the collar

Having the dumbbell eyes tied on the top keep the fly riding hook point up keeping you out of grass and coral. The krystal flash is catchy and can grab a fish’s attention easily. The pseudo hair helps the profile and looks just like a shrimp back.

Cast near tailing or cruising bonefish. Lead the fish by about a foot and use a fly with a very subtle presentation. Let the fly get to the bottom before stripping it. When fish get close to the fly a couple of short quick strips grabs their attention like a fleeing shrimp. Use this same technique for permit!
