Tying Recipe
  • Hook: Standard Dry Fly Hook
  • Thread: UTC 70 Denier
  • Body: Orange Foam Parachute Post
  • Wing: White Poly Yarn
  • Hackle: Dry Fly Hackle

Wing: Antron or Calf Hair

You can tie it in brown, black, red and orange/cinnamon as mentioned in the video.

This fly once you practice it a couple times is a really easy tie and if you’re anything like me, you don’t fish ants that often. That said, they have their value and can be excellent and this one floats well and is easy and durable. Don’t spend 30 minutes per fly tying this, make them good and durable and then get em in your box so you can work on your hoppers.

Fish the banks with this fly.  Fishing this as a single fly is not only fun and relaxing, but you can really get close to the bank on this pattern and it can work any overhanging grasses or branches or sticks.  Ants fall off here often and this pattern will bring a fish to the surface with ease when you get it close to the bank.
