The Best Anglers Never Stop Learning
Tying Video
This fly is pretty small and heavy. This gets it on the bottom quickly but you have to be careful with your cast so you don’t spook the fish. Practice a very subtle presentation. The zonker body and marabou tail give this fly tons of movement that carp look for. Having the eyes tied on the top of the hook shank keeps the fly riding hook point up and off the rocks and grass.
Watch for cruising or tailing carp, you’ll need to sight fish for these. Cast far enough in front of them to let the fly sink to the bottom and wait for them to get close to the fly. When they are about 6″ away from the fly give a few short quick strips like a crawfish fleeing backwards. This will grab the carp’s attention and you should be able to watch them turn on the fly. A quick strip set and the fun part begins.
