Tying Recipe
  • Hook: Saltwater wide gap
  • Eyes 1: Beadchain eyes
  • Thread: Fl. chartreuse
  • Claws: India hen hackle
  • Body 1: Cactus chenille
  • Body 2: EP fiber
  • Eyes 2: Large black mono eyes
  • Weed Guard: 15 pound mono
  • Use whatever hook is best for your species
  • Use dumbbell eyes if you need the fly to get deeper
  • Use any hackle you have
  • Make your own mono eyes
  • Tie larger or smaller to match the crabs in your area.
  • Tie in olive or blue to match the color of your crabs

The EP body and cactus chenille give this fly a great profile in the water. The hackle claws wiggle in the water and add to the overall movement this fly creates. The dumbbell eyes keep the fly on the bottom riding hook point up. This is a very versatile crab pattern, tie in any color or size to match your target species and the crabs in your fishery.

Cast this fly to cruising or tailing fish. If you are fishing near mangroves cast to open areas. If you are on the flats or grass let the fly sink to the bottom and keep your line tight. Short quick strips with a medium pause gets attention and provide a great hopping movement that looks just like a crab fleeing.
