Tying Video
Tying tips: Use a brush or fine comb to fluff out the zonker strips before fishing.
The double bunny is a go-to single hook streamer pattern because of its success. It is no secret that zonker strips are incredibly good at catching fish. This baitfish imitation uses that knowledge to create an irresistible pattern for trout and bass alike. You can tie it in every color under the sun to match the baitfish in your fishery. Just a few baitfish imitations we like:
White-Shad
Olive barred top/white bottom- Sculpin
Olive back/ tan bottom/ orange and blue dubbing-panfish
Try tying lots of color combinations and see what works best!
Remember to get your fly deep enough and into the strike zone. If your fly isn’t getting deep enough use a sink tip line. This fly can also be tied like a clouser minnow with dumbbell eyes on top, this inverts the hook to keep you from getting hung up and adds weight. Vary your retrieve when fishing these flies, sometimes fish will like them with long slow strips, sometimes short quick erratic strips work. Continue to vary your strips throughout the day if action slows down. Use this fly year-round for bass and in the fall/winter months for trout when hatches aren’t happening.
