The Best Anglers Never Stop Learning
Tying Video
This fly is essentially just a blob of one material so it’s difficult to have many really worthwhile substitutions. The Egg Yarn is important to this fly in terms of how it looks, and fishes. Sticking with the give recipe is a no brainer on this pattern.
Variations on this fly consist of changes in color and size for the most part. The original peach color shown in the video is always a solid choice. Some other colors options that the trout seem to salivate over are white, pink, and orange. A good spread of each color, in multiple sizes, will keep your bases covered for the Winter moths, and whenever else you may be tying on a egg pattern.
You can whip up an entire batch of these guys in different colors, and sizes, in the matter of just a few minutes no matter what experience level you have. Eggs Over Easy are easy on the pocketbook, and you can have one too many drinks without worrying that your bugs will be insufficient when you take a second look in the morning! Always having a few egg patterns in your box is an ideal that should be kept up with for any angler, and this is a good one to fill it with!
Fishing this fly in a deep nymph rig to likely holding water will produce the best results. This is a great point fly, as it attracts a lot of attention in the river. If that is the way you chose to fish it, keep in mind that some split shit may be necessary to get the fly (or flies) down into the feeding zone more rapidly. Winter time, dirty water, high water, or perfect conditions, give this pattern a chance.
