Tying Video
Tying Tip: Take your time wrapping the brush and try not to trap the fibers. Use a bodkin to pick out the stuck fibers.
This fly has amazing movement thanks to the tarantula brush and the marabou. The dumbbell eyes on top get this fly to the bottom quick, keep the hook point riding up, and make the fly crawl along the bottom well.
Tie in some smaller sizes for bonefish and even big sizes for tarpon. Use different color brushes to create cool color combos. A general rule is when your’e fishing over sand use a tan crab and when you are fishing over grass use an olive crab pattern.
Cast this fly to tailing fish or cruisers you find on the flats. Crabs generally live on the bottom, get this fly deep and strip slowly along the bottom. Most people tend to fish crab patterns too quickly or don’t lead the fish enough to let the fly sink to the bottom. Once the fly is on bottom slow long strips work well to attract fish. Keep your rod tip low and strip set when you feel pressure.
